Irene White was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer in January of this year. She underwent an intensive chemotherapy regimen to shrink the tumors to a size that would allow them to be surgically removed. The surgery was performed on Monday, May 22, and Irene returned home to continue her recovery on June 1. Nobody could have predicted or expected that instead, June 2 would be Irene's last day on earth. Irene was 47 years old. She leaves behind a husband and four children, who now have to bear the unimaginable. Her youngest is only ten years old. Those of you who know the White family know that they would never ask for help themselves, but the truth is that their lives were already radically disrupted with Irene's long illness, and adjusting to her loss imposes significant costs.
Irene and Allen are friends of ours--our children attended some of the same therapy programs, and Allen and I both work at Ball State. We set up the page here to help collect donations at the lowest possible cost (GoFundMe charges 5% plus credit card processing fees). This page only has to pay for credit card processing fees, but we will personally cover those so that every donation received can go directly to Irene's family. If you would like to contribute, please click the link below. If you would like to donate in-kind items, or if you would like to help in some other way, please contact Kevin Gatzlaff at (850) 443-2026 or Rachael Alaniz at (850) 322-3673. We have agreed to coordinate volunteer efforts in Irene's memory, and in the memory of our own little girl.
